The Cranberries’ “Zombie”: A Conflict in Ireland and Northern Ireland

Alguna vez habrás escuchado “Zombie” de The Cranberries. Quizás es una de tus canciones favoritas… pero, ¿de qué habla la canción? Enma García-Ortega, Aroa Jerez, Alex Rodríguez y José Abel Santos, alumnado de 1º Bachillerato de Ciencias y Tecnología, han realizado un trabajo de investigación sobre el conflicto político entre Nacionalistas (irlandeses en su mayoría) y Unionistas (británicos en su mayoría) durante el siglo XX que dio pie a la independencia de la república irlandesa, al conflicto norirlandés y a las tensiones actuales tras el Brexit. Analizan las relaciones complicadas entre estos países a través de una de las canciones más famosas y más escuchadas de toda la historia: “Zombie” de The Cranberries.

You must have listened to “Zombie” by The Cranberries at least once. Maybe it is one of your favourite songs… but what is the song about? Enma García-Ortega, Aroa Jerez, Alex Rodríguez and José Abel Santos, students of 1st Bachillerato in Science and Technology, have developed a research on the war, and social and political conflict between Nationalists (mostly Irish people) and Unionists (mostly British) during the 20th century. This conflict led to the independence of the Republic of Ireland, the Troubles and the current tensions after Brexit. These four students have analysed the complicated and tense relations between these countries through one of the most famous and most listened to songs in history: “Zombie” by The Cranberries.
