WHY IS MUSIC SO IMPORTANT IN ANIMATION? – Chapter 2 WHEN YOU BELIEVE

4th year CSE students continue the project entitled ‘Why Music is so Important in Animation?’ in order to enhance the value of music in animated movies. The main objective of this activity is to analyse the lyrics and discover the moral that songwriters wanted to transmit, why the songs are performed in a specific moment in these movies, and so on. All the songs selected have been award winners and and have been chosen for their valuable messages.

In our 2nd instalment, we are talking about the song When you believe? by American singers Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. The song was made for the 1998 Dream Works musical animated feature The Prince of Egypt. It was written and composed by Stephen Schwartz.

The Prince of Egypt is an adaptation of the Biblical story of the Exodus. When You Believe is sung in the film by characters Tzipporah and Miriam, and a chorus of people departing from the slavery of Egypt to the Red Sea and the Promised Land. The protagonists of this ballad recall tough times that have caused them to question their own faith: they have prayed for many nights to God, but those prayers have seemed to remain unanswered, and now they wonder if their faith has been only a waste of time.

We hope you all accept that errors are part of our learning process and we need to fail sometimes to become perfect. Thanks for appreciating our mistakes in pronunciation.

Presenters, Alba and Mara talk about this song in our radio station.

Let’s listen to what they have to say.
