Elena is a «santanderina» scientist who holds a doctorate in Robotics from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
She developed the first bionic exosqueleton for children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a degenerative disease that affects 2.000 children in Spain.
In 2009, when she met a girl called Daniela, who had a crash and suffered a tetraplegia, she decided to design a structure which is fixed to the legs and the trunk and incorporates a motor that produces their movement to help people walk.
