Día de los autores europeos

The Day of European Authors is an initiative of Commissioner Gabriel, to reconnect younger generations with book reading and to help them discover the diversity of European literature. Secondary schools across the EU are invited to organise reading aloud session with European authors.

The first edition of the Day of European Authors is taking place on 27 March 2023. Our High School is participating in this initiative by organizing a reading aloud session.

This session is going to have a common core: European authors that are somehow related to our region, Extremadura. Our goal is trying to connect what on many occasions we consider very distant (Europe) with our land. We hope that this is a way of attracting the interest of our students to European authors, associating them to Extremadura and therefore ascertaining that, in many historical moments, Extremadura was a land of transit and a factor of interest for many writers.

To carry out our proposal, we have begun by carrying out small investigations in our classes on different European authors related in one way or another (either because descriptions appear in their works, or because they visited us at some point) with Extremadura and with Merida (the town where our High School is located) specifically. We will expose the result of this investigation in a special RadioEdu program (the educational radio station that we have in our high school), commemorating the anniversary, a program in which we will read the biographies, the connections and texts by these authors.

We hope you enjoy it!!!
